We the people of Montana should be outraged that this 3-year-old girl and her family got substandard treatment
in this state because they didn't have insurance at the time of diagnosis. I don't have any insurance either and I have some major medical problems that I have caused me to get the same inferior care here. What can we do to improve the care that we get here? I can tell you that this is something I never thought about when I planned to move here 20 years ago. Fortunately, Kiersa is getting help, but out of state. Wouldn't it be so much better and more assuring if every one could get the care they need, and adequately so, right here in the Treasure State?
Yesterday's Police Reports (Thursday, 1 May) in the Daily Chronicle contained the following: "An officer at the high school checked the names of people going to prom."
I don't recall seeing any police records like that in years past, and I'm curious. Does anyone know what's up with that?
Vanity Fair had to shut down their website yesterday after receiving over 4 million hits because of Miley Cyrus's "risque" photos.
I would like to hear from some photographers what they thought about the photos. Were they artsy? What do Bozeman families with 15 year olds think about the message this portrays? Over-rated as risque or totally inappropriate?
Seen the sign on Highland Blvd near the hospital for
The Knolls yet? What does age-restricted living mean? What's up with that?
What do you think Bozeman needs?
What would you like to see in Bozeman? Businesses? Politics? Ethics? Opportunities? Removals?
I have a friend that is currently being threatened to be sued because her 2 year old son bit another young kid at McDonalds. This other family "claims" that their kid will probably need surgery for how hard she was bitten, yet the parents of the other kid did not say anything to my friend at the time of the incident that thier kid had been bitten. What should she do?... Her son isn't old enough to understand that what he may have done actually hurt. Plus, this other family cant even keep a solid story every time the have contacted my friend. The bill fluctuates higher and higher and they are sounding very money greedy...I/They need some advice....
After reading many of the discussions, here on Bozeman talks, it made me think of someone I know in Bozeman who needs help. Anne Foster and her husband moved to Bozeman more than 16 years ago. They have worked hard and love being part of this community. Both of them are extremely proud and do not want to ask for help -- but Anne does need your help, now.
A few years ago, Anne started having trouble with a variety of symptoms including unusual lesions on her bone, and symptomatic Tarlov Cysts that have virtually left her unable to do anything. The bone lesions need to be investigated at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. She and her husband are currently at Mayo having those tests done. But, Mayo required a minimum of $8,000 cash up front to do the procedures. Graciously, their Church has helped them with a portion of the funds. But, there is still a shortage that needs to be paid. Additionally, for Anne to have surgery for her Tarlov Cysts that have left her so significantly disabled, she needs surgery...
It seems this town has a bunch of malcontents in it.
It know its been long winter filled with cloudy and snowy days, but for those of you who have been reading the paper's website are we sure its a good idea not just just have some level of prozac in the water? Some of people on here (this website) truly seem to need it, just like the fluoride for cavities. I bet if we buy a bunch in bulk and dump it in Hyalite it could be construed as a public service. Maybe the government will even pay for it. Thoughts? P.S. I'm not sure why they don't ban motorized boats at Hyalite, we end up drinking that water and it would be better if it wasn't mixed with a little bit of gas and oil.
Are there risk factors for back pain? And, if there are, what can I do to keep myself healthy and well? Your chiropractor can help answer these questions and more.
One primary risk factor relates to exercise. Everyone has heard, "if you don't use it, you lose it". If you're not exercising regularly, your back muscles are deconditioned and much more susceptible to injury - the strains and sprains we're accustomed to calling "back pain". Muscles get stronger when they're required to do work. Also exercise helps "train" the soft tissues around a joint - the ligaments and tendons - these supporting structures "learn" how to withstand mechanical stresses and loads without becoming injured. Basically, when you exercise - when you do any kind of exercise - your body gets "smarter" and you're less likely to get those annoying back problems.1 A related risk factor is weak abdominal muscles. When you were a kid, at some point one of your gym teachers probably told you to "suck in your stomach". Actually, it turns out that...
Will the Chronicle ever put their full paper out in a readable format rather then PDF for free? The Billings Gazette and Missoulian already do this in a much better way then the Bozeman paper does. Does this bother anybody else? The PDF doesn't seem very accessible for sight impaired or deaf users who use screen readers. It would sure be nice for them to also get local news as easy as sighted readers.
I wonder what they were thinking when they made this decision and if they'd ever reconsider and adopt website more like the other state papers.
Does anyone else question that there are a plethora of 4 way stops in Bozeman that don't have any stop-signs in either direction? I mean,What's up with that!? Every time I cross those streets, its like juts closing my eyes, and hoping there isn't someone else coming at the same time - same speed. Not literally of course, but you get the drift. And in the winter time,it seriously becomes dangerous as it is harder to stop quickly.
Who gets right of way anyway? I hope I am not the only who thinks this is crazy and dangerous!
I am getting ready to move to Bozeman and I would like to learn more about what companies allow one to telecommute/work virtually. I have been told that many people do so in the Bozeman area but I haven't had any luck. I have an engineering degree and some experience (still in my 20's) and I am looking for something that would provide me with the opportunity to advance, etc. I am aware that travel will be involved and that is fine. Anyone know about companies that allow this, or does anyone work virtually? Thanks!
Has anyone had to address how to keep your employees productive with distractions like the Internet? I have done an unofficial/unscientific poll to see how much time is being spend on non-work web surfing such as, ebay, personal email, social networking sites, and instant messaging, and the results is scary. I see almost 1/4 of the work day consumed with this activity. Is there an effective way to fix this problem?
What do you think, whats causing the slow down in downtown business shopping? The Economy, the after affect of construction, cost of Gas, habit or maybe better shopping options off of 19th?
I am moving to Bozeman from Atlanta, the hip-hop capital of the south. And our southern metropolis has absorbed much of the "hip-hop" culture as well. So I am wondering about the typical musical preferences of Bozeman...most popular radio stations, most popular songs right now, what you usually hear in a bar or nightclub.....are there any hip-hop music playing nightclubs??
I know how much Bozeman has changed, but it's still Bozeman, right? I don't know how to word this, but I'll give it a try. I grew up there and have wonderful memories of the town. I loved the sense of community, the beautiful tree-lined streets, Main Street, the sudden silence when MSU lets out for the summer, the Sweet Pea festival, skating at South Side park, the funky 1940's schools, the clock chimes at the campus...of course the people...and even the terrible weather and tons of snow. We have lived out of state for nearly 10 years now and are thinking of moving back. We've got kids now, and I hate the thought of raising them in a city. Moving would mean lowered expectations salary-wise (and long term job wise) and downgrading house size and of course leaving good friends. But I'm homesick! And I want to be able to give my kids at least some of what I had as a kid. Is most of what I miss still a part of living in Bozeman? Am I romantisizing things too much? Weigh in...is Bozeman still Bozeman, and...
Our 18 year old thinks he doesn't have to work for a living and makes excuses to avoid putting in for jobs. We live 4 miles from town and he doesn't drive, so makes it tough. He joined Army reserve 8 months ago, and seems to think the world is going to just give him everything. We given him 60 days to get a job and an apartment away from mommy and daddy. He is buried in video games, TV, and sleeping. We give ideas and suggestions, and he fights them all. Any ideas?
I am a student at Montana State University and have gotten involved in a student organization that is hosting a CSA (community supported agriculture) this summer. I think that we as a nation have a very unhealthy relationship with our food systems and am curious if there are any other views on this subject. I put this into the "Just Asking" category but feel that this topic could fit in almost any of the categories offered.
Being aware that this forum is still fairly young, I have developed a curiosity so far on what seems to be the hot topics. And I'm not passing judgement, as I have read or contributed to several different posts on far ranging topics.
But I'm really wondering if it's a representation of the public's priorities when a post regarding where the best place to eat in Bozeman is, has 5 times the response as does the post on presidential elections. Again, not to past judgement, but I guess I am a lot more interested in who Bozeman is going to vote for, be it for president, or school board than than I am interested in where you dine.
Anyone seen or experienced workplace bullying?
Several people I know have. Any luck raising awareness? Schools have to deal with it. Children who bully may become bullying adults. Do bullies end up in places of leadership? I think it starts or stops at the top.
What do you think should be done with the Story Mansion? Is the city making the right decision by maintaining ownership, or should it be sold?
Has anyone heard anything about a man in a green van telling children he is lost and asking them to help him find his house? This supposedly happened last Thursday in Alder Creek. This may be the second time this man has approached children. Anyone have any info??
Is anyone out there with young children having issues with the Meth commercials coming on during family shows (TV-Y)? I was watching American Idol (which comes on from 7 - 8pm) with my 5 and 6 year old and they were scared to death by the images. When I contacted the Meth organization they said those images are appropriate for children 12 years and up. Why put them on during shows rated for children younger than that? I certainly appreciate the cause, but wonder why we can't show them at a more appropriate time - even beginning at 8pm.
