I just thought that this was an interesting story.
Tuesday, May 4 is the next school bond
election. Be sure to vote at Willson School
Gym unless you have used a mail-in ballot.
Don't let a handful of voters decide this
important request for millions more tax
dollars that may/may not come in locally.
Here's the truth from a reliable source.
It's not surprising that 33 states have used up their funds.
What is surprising is the list of borrowing
these states have done. Bankruptcy will have
a new meaning when all is said and done.

Students! Especially you progressive ones. Now that the Health Bill is passed, shout it-- VICTORY! Now in addition to tuition rates sky-rocketing at campuses across America, so too will student loans be overcharged to cover the expenses of health care! Yes, education for the middle class becoming a thing of the past. As in the days of old, the aristocracy will be the only ones educated as they must carry the unfathomable burden of great wealth. Charles? Yes Mumsey? What did you learn in class today? The Bourgeoisie, Mumsey--they are in such need of our help! Very good my Charles! Good indeed! As Alpha Beagle pointed out so well in another post,"Re: Re: Fundraising", under "A moment of Pride for Tea Partiers everywhere" by Bozonative. You now HAVE THE RIGHT TO BE FORCED TO PURCHASE HEALTH CARE! ! LOL!!! -- You geniuses you! Stocks on EVIL insurance companies ticked upward. Surprise, surprise. ...
It was appalling to read in Monday's
BDC that someone in Belgrade keeps a horse
in their house like a pet. It's anyone's
guess how the horse feels about it.
Here is how one human thinks about it.
The house will never be the same.
Not everyone wants to buy one
that's been used as a barn.
Raising children in such a
setting is risky. There are infections
allergies and diseases caused by co-habiting
with animals. Cat and dog owners know this.
Not only is the child at risk but
all it's classmates may be exposed
to some microbe that normally
stays in a barn away from humans.
The next school epidemic may be on
its way in Belgrade. Or are they
home-schooled children? Think it through.
Either way it's not intelligent.
Principles of hygiene are needed here.
A government big enough to give you everything you want
is big enough to take away everything you have.

What's to be done? These deaths are not only the drunk drivers.
Innocent people suffer from this craziness.
Reading the Weds, Nov 11, Chronicle, I had a good laugh.
A reprint in Section C, front page, is the reason.
I wondered if the Chronicle editor read this story
before taking it from the Big Sky News Service.
It's worthy of one of the late night talk shows.
"Trustees had copies of court records and given the
levity of the crime and Lang's position in the district,
'the board was given little choice' but to fire her."
I doubt there was anything light, funny or full of
frivolity about this crime of embezzlement or her firing.
Levity has been used to mean frivolity since 1564.
Spellcheck doesn't work for content, context or
meaning at all once again.
Just exactly what is the definition of "viewing threshold?" And who decides where a post lies. How do the viewers feel about this? It looks like old-fashioned censorship. There've certainly been alot of posts with foul/obscene language in them that should've been censored. Do you agree or disagree. Who is the Editor-in-charge? Let's hear from them. What's their criteria?
It's surprising to see a nude painting to the right of the inside Public Library entry doors. If I were a parent or grandparent, I'd keep my young children away from the library during Sweet Pea. The picture is degrading to women and just plain offensive. It is not beautiful. Children exposed to sexual material too young wind up being the abusers and perverse of the future. Since when did the Bozeman Public Library become a gallery open to every kind of artwork. It takes a village/community to raise healthy, balanced, wise, sane young people.
Thanks to the BDC for publishing the info re: the space shuttle pass over Bzn tonite. It was clearly visible where we are and exciting to witness. See BDC page A8, Tues, Jul 21, 09 for the details of other opportunities to view the shuttle. It's projected to be visilble locally 4 more times if the nights are clear as it was Jul 21.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has called on governments to use graphic pictures on tobacco products to show the frightening physical results of smoking. Effective health warnings, especially those that include pictures, have been proven to motivate users to quit and to reduce the appeal of tobacco for those who are not yet addicted.
Smoking causes breast cancer. So does secondhand smoke. Those are the conclusions of an international panel of public health that poured over more than 100 recent studies in linkages. The panel found evidence that smoking could increase breast cancer risks by 40 to 50 percent in some cases. And in genetically susceptible women, the risk could be doubled. "Faith leaders are making tobacco a priority because for too long our clergy and our churches have been burying fathers, mothers, sisters, and brothers who were addicted to tobacco at a young age. This is a moral tragedy that must be dealt with in this country."...James Winkler, General Secretary
General Board of Church & Society, United Methodist Church... http://faithunitedagainsttobacco.org/
On Memorial Day, when we reflect on the sacrifices our fallen heroes made so that we can live free, it seems that World No Tobacco Day comes at a perfect time. . . . Freedom from tobacco addiction is not a sacrifice; it's a way to live our lives to honor those who gave us our freedom.

The toll of tobacco in the United States is devastating. It takes away a person’s health, wealth, and freedom.
People with mental illness experience an even greater burden from tobacco. They suffer significantly more tobacco-related illnesses and premature death than the general population.
Their tobacco use also interferes with recovery from mental illness, causes economic hardships, and further marginalizes them from society.
Consider these facts:
•Smoking prevalence among people with mental illness is 2-3 times higher than the general population.
•People with serious mental illness die 25 years younger than the general population largely due to conditions caused or worsened by smoking.
•People with mental illness consume more than 44% of all cigarettes smoked in the United States.
•Smokers with schizophrenia spend more than one-quarter of their total income on cigarettes.
•Tobacco use interferes with the actions of many psychiatric medications. Higher doses are often required to achieve therapeutic...

Can anyone tell me how to get an application to teach in L.A.?
Relax, folks. Just a little fun from the Onion as the weekend looms. I especially liked steps 4 and 8.
Enjoy the sun.

A story on Page A3 of the Thursday, March 26, 2009, Chronicle covers the pending vote on the MSU faculty union. Will the outcome be beneficial to the university community?
I think its funny when people talk about education, especially here in Bozeman h/s system. Talking to some of the kids, mainly juniors and seniors, they haven't got a clue about most things. The watered down crap that they teachers feed them shouldn't count as school work. The stuff that they get has them thinking that recycling is gonna save the world and wearing seat belts is gonna some how save lives.
I think its ridiculous the classes that they take. I was trying to talk to them about current events, and they are so ignorant they can't hold a intelligent discussion about whats going on in either the world or the economy. Especially the Bridger Alternative school, alternative to what? I mean shoving kids through high school knowing that they haven't learned squat doesn't do anyone good. I was looking at one of the kids home work and was amazed that he hadn't the slightest idea about the things. Seriously the questions were like 2nd grade history. Sweet, good job you are graduating more high school...
The powers that be are now considering moving the Bridger Alternative HS in with Bozeman HS in a effort to save money. Money may be saved, but at the expense of how many kids? Many of the kids attending Bridger Alternative left Bozeman HS because they were not learning or thriving in that environment for one reason or another. We cannot respond to them by forcing a "one size fits all" solution. Now some of you have the attitude - and don't deny it, because I've heard it from the horse's mouth - that these are the "bad" kids, or the "weird" kids and don't deserve "special treatment". Why not? We certainly have special treatment for other kids and try to meet their needs. I've met many of these kids - my own kid went to this school, and I can tell you that I would not label any of them "bad"! Many of them came and went freely at our house. I found many of them to be intelligent, creative and sensitive to others. However, many of them were different - in the way they dressed; or perhaps they were quieter...
Everytime there is a fresh deeper snowfall, there are rashes of accident reports all over the valley. What can we each do to avoid this? Number one: Allow more time to reach destinations. Slow down and drive according to conditions. Or do people just have amnesia about driving on ice and snow and have to relearn it everytime it happens. Who wants to be a statistic!?
Let's commend the BDC for addressing the high suicide epidemic in Montana on its Sunday front page. As stated in an earlier post, someone once said, "Suicide is a final solution for a temporary problem." There are survivors of their own suicide attempts who can tell you this. The living relatives of those who died by their own hand, are not the only kind of survivors. The others know that the stigma is real and oftentimes live in a secret fear that their former mistake will interfere with or ruin their attempts at recovery or moving on with their lives. It can be successfully learned that "Suicide is not a good option." It's possible to say "No" to suicide just as it's possible to say "No" to another drink or drug abuse. But it takes the commitment of everyone to make this happen. It's not someone else's problem. It's a human family, community, statewide, nationwide, worldwide problem.

Being younger than most of the people writing on here, I have strong memories of only the past 2 presidents. Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. Now, I was pretty young for Clinton, but Bush I do have memories of, and I have to say that I really didn't have a huge problem with how he ran things, obviously he is a politician so I don't agree with everything. And certainly disagree strongly and several things.
Talking to a co worker who was saying he was a Republican but hated Bush, his words were, "Bush is the biggest retard in the world." I was like, you really think that he is the BIGGEST retard in the world? Are you listing to yourself, it makes you sound so intelligent. He sputtered around and walked off. Bush received an ailing economy from Clinton, he got hit with the biggest terrorist attack, because of Clinton and Jimmy Carter. He lead the nation through international and economical crisis. I wouldn't say he was superman, but he wasn't a horrible evil villain that people make him out to be. Obama talked... |
