Do People really care? My mom was raised to believe that you should always look for the good in everyne and any situation. She was taught if you see someone that is in need you make every effort to help send them a note to say we care or buy them a meal. Now I'm woundering if there is anyone with the same beliefes as my parents. My parents have a jar on the counter that says We Care for all the extra pennies or change we may have then when someone is in need we use it. Now my parents are in need now. I've written letters and called every agency and every resourse they refer me to and still I get the standered blow off letter that we all seem to get becuase no one wants to take the effort to help unless there is something in it for them. My parents helped one to many people out and were taken advange of slowly looseing everything they have worked so hard to give us. Moms sick and we hear her cry at night while she is sayin her prayer. I want my parents to see that there are still people that care with no strings...

What is the best/favorite bumper sticker you've seen?
To start things off:
"Smile, one size fits all."

Anyone know much about the Bozeman Symphony? I am new to town & wondering what it's like. What is the repertoire, how often do they perform, and the cost?

I remember when a Sweet Pea button was $5. Over the years I have seen the price of the addmitance to sweet pea skyrocket. For a family of four it can now cost you almost half a benjamin just to get it! There are a lot of families who can't and won't pay that much to eat a tater pig and watch an unknown band. Why is the Sweet Pea board so hell bent on keeping corporate money out of their precious little festival? There are numerous businesses that would love to sponsor the event therefore lowering the price of addmitance for everyone.

I recently went to a festival in the south that was similar to Sweet Peas and the admittance was FREE! There were so many people there and the vendors were selling merchandise left and right. People had more money to spend on food and art/crafts because it was free to get and everyone could attend. There were sponsor banners at the base of multiple stages but not enough to take away from the quality of the festival.

So tell us Sweet Pea board...why has your cost gone up....

Ok, let's get rate the mom and pop restaurants.

Stacey's: Gateway; Best new restaurant! Food and prices are awesomely reasonable! Worth the drive, if it is a drive.

The Western: Can't get better than that. Everyone is welcome, hippie to banker. That's Bozeman!

The next time you hear a politician use the

word "billion" in a casual manner, think about

whether you want the "politicians" spending

YOUR tax money.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend,

but one advertising agency did a good job of

putting that figure into some perspective in

one of its releases..

A. A billion seconds ago it was 1959.

B. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

C. A billion hours ago our ancestors were

living in the Stone Age.

D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth.

E. A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and

20 minutes, at the rate our government is spending it.

While this thought is still fresh in our brain, let's take a look at New Orleans It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division . .

Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu (D), is presently asking the Congress for $250 BILLION to rebuild New Orleans . Interesting number, what does it mean?

A. Well, if you are one of 484,674 residents of

New Orleans (every man, woman, child), you

each get $516,528.

B. Or, if you...

Take a look at their website it, hopefully, will catch the interest to one of the big money people around here. Even though we like to think local,it looks like a great alternative to the fast food giants!

Hi, I am probably the primary admin/moderator on BozemanTalks. In light of some recently posted frustrations, I thought I would explain how the content is displayed, and if there will be any improvements.

First, I do watch daily and throughout the day at what is being posted on BozemanTalks. The “Featured Talk” is posts largely picked by myself to be featured. I look for interesting, potentially engaging posts or posts with interesting comments to feature. So if you want your post to be featured, make good and engaging posts, give your view point on something, don’t just ask a question, and a photo doesn’t hurt either.

The “Your Talk” section which is just under the “Featured Talk” is all the recently posted or commented on posts (that are not featured). This means a couple of older posts could sit right at the top of the list because of all the commenting that is taking place.

Another way to view the content on BozemanTalks would be to select “DISCUSSIONS” on the navigation bar. This will display all discussions...

Definitely what is needed is a Fazoli's. I wouldn't really like to see more construction, HOWEVER, Fazoli's is a great healthier-type of fast food. LOVE the endless supply of hot garlic breadsticks! They're fairly inexpensive and great food! I love the variety & salads. A great alternative to a fast-food hamburger joint.

I'd open one up myself if I had the $1,000,000 required! I know it would do well.

oops- I meant to post this to "What Bozeman Needs".. trying to figure out how to move it..

So you got this guy Murdoch callin' the gravel pit owners thieves in the night. Nice try! You go DEQ with a 10 year back log? Really! Now who is the thief in the night? Looks like DEQ is run by a bunch of eco-terrorists. THe commissioners kept draggin their feet in earnest while the came up with a plan to stop land owners from exercising their legal land use rights. Government likes 3 things, control, control and control. The commissioners are the thieves in the night and they steal land owner freedom. THese guys along with DEQ want the state of Montana to become a national park.

...has gone full circle. Since its inception it covered alot of immedite issues and had some pretty dumb discussions. But with nothing new in the passed days, it seems to be not worth checking in on anymore.

It was fun, now it's time it get's revamped or dropped,

The city/county collects taxes in a variety of ways - property taxes, business taxes, and more. I don't understand, however, why we need higher levies on our property taxes to accommodate schooling costs, as well as the other areas where population growth requires expenditures – sewers, streets, playgrounds, snowplows, etc.

Shouldn’t the proper tax structure already be in place, so that each newcomer pays their own way? This would result in a tax base that increases proportionally to the population growth. Instead, it seems that we're going to follow this pattern of being forever nickel-and-dimed for increases. Is there anyone out there who thinks we won't be seeing any more school-tax requests in the next 12 months?

The levies that passed on Tuesday will add $175/yr in property tax to a $200K home (quick guess/estimate), which translates into anywhere from $150 - $350 for a majority of homeowners, if not quite a bit more. This is on top of the fact that assessed values for taxation continually...

Looking for an honest vet, who is not geared towards robbing a pet owner, of his or her life savings.

We returned to Bozeman two years ago. Our experience in Texas made us more than leary of vets. We found that vet's today, have found their niche' in guilting pet owners into dozens of tests.

"Oh, we better do blood work."
(Nothing wrong...)
"Oh, it looks like cancer and a very aggressive type."
(Biopsy...NOT...)
"Oh, we must clean his teeth every six months, and put him under anesthesia."
($600.00 every 6 months for 2 animals!)
"Oh, we better do an x-ray..."
(Dog must have had a pulled muscle, who knows...)

blah, blah, blah...(Kaching!$$$$$)

Found my animals were receiving every test, and procedure available to mankind, and humankind. They got more "tests" than I, my wife, or kids have ever had, in a combined 170 years of living. (our ages added together)

This was a "Banfield Vet." I found out after several years of my pockets being picked, that several of my other neighbors unbeknownst to all of us, had experienced...

We the people of Montana should be outraged that this 3-year-old girl and her family got substandard treatment
in this state because they didn't have insurance at the
time of diagnosis. I don't have any insurance either
and I have some major medical problems that I have
caused me to get the same inferior care here.

What can we do to improve the care that we get here? I
can tell you that this is something I never thought about
when I planned to move here 20 years ago. Fortunately,
Kiersa is getting help, but out of state. Wouldn't it
be so much better and more assuring if every one could
get the care they need, and adequately so, right here
in the Treasure State?

We are lucky to have such a fine local brew from the folks at Bozone. They took awards in just about every category at the recent beer fest. Their Hopzone Pale Ale took a first place! I agree with that award--its DELICIOUS!

I made this other night for dinner and it was simple and delicious for a summer time meal that can be made and ate hot or cold.

1 lb Ziti pasta*
1 lb asparagus, cut into pieces the same size as the ziti
2 T olive oil*
2 garlic cloves, minced
Sea salt & fresh ground pepper*
1 c smoked provolone, diced*
6 slices prosciutto, cut into strips*
handful of basil
*Available at All Things Italian

Cook the ziti for about 8 minutes in a large pot of salted water, put in the asparagus and cook an additional 2 minutes. Saute the garlic in the olive oil in a large pan until it becomes fragrant but don't brown it. Add the strained pasta and asparagus to the garlic and toss. Take off the heat and add salt & pepper, provolone, prosciutto, and torn basil. Toss and the cheese will melt, if the pasta and cheese are too tight add a little of the pasta cooking water to loosen.

Yesterday's Police Reports (Thursday, 1 May) in the Daily Chronicle contained the following: "An officer at the high school checked the names of people going to prom."

I don't recall seeing any police records like that in years past, and I'm curious. Does anyone know what's up with that?

Vanity Fair had to shut down their website yesterday after receiving over 4 million hits because of Miley Cyrus's "risque" photos.

I would like to hear from some photographers what they thought about the photos. Were they artsy?

What do Bozeman families with 15 year olds think about the message this portrays? Over-rated as risque or totally inappropriate?

I have no problem with assessments (definition Ref: 1) made to the property I own made in the way of SID's or assessment taxes to support street, sidewalk or water and sewer improvements. However as the proposed ordinance to have, "water and/or sewer accounts for all residential property to be placed in the property owner's name" is unfair.

Some of you may have heard of the practice of how disgruntled tenants in a New York high rise would leave their doors and window open during winter because the landlord was paying the heating bill. It is for this reason why I clearly indicate in the rental agreement that the tenant(s) is responsible for their gas, electric, and garbage service. The same is true for the water and sewer service, the tenant pays the bill.

Cities/towns across the country have a tendency to have metered water and sewer systems for good reasons. I have had to evict persons in the past for failure to maintain the property in a clean and sanitary manner. I don't want to become a victim of a...

As everyone is tightening down on their pocket books and trying to save money, all of the local businesses in the valley are feeling a strain. So not only should you go downtown and shop, you should support all local businesses. Anytime you spend money at a big box store, chain grocery, or any other chain you might be saving a few bucks but your money is going to support other communities and pay salaries of people who don't live here.

So just be mindful - if you do choose to spend local, more of that money stays in the valley. (..."one dollar spent at a local business will return five dollars within the community through taxes, employees' wages, and purchases of materials and supplies from other independent businesses..." www.gviba.org)

Buying local will keep Bozeman the wonderful place it is with unique places to shop, eat, and receive care!

I'd just like to say koodos to the new management of Heebs grocery. I was not aware of the change in ownership, but have noticed the improved selection of produce. I shop at Heebs just about every other day since it is the most convenient store for me on the way home from work. The service has always been friendly, but recently I've noticed the staff making a concerted effort to be helpful. Also, thanks for stocking Hot Mama Salsa. I love that stuff!

The opinion piece in today's Chronicle gushes the same typical, anti-gun diatribe that gun-control supporters regurgitate every time: We MUST restrict legal, law-abiding gun owners to insure they don't go off and shoot up everything!!!

There are several faulty arguments here.

1. The requirement to unload and make gun "inaccessible" is "simple": Who defines whether a gun is accessible or not? Where is the "inaccessible" place for the millions of owners of pickups, vans, SUVs, and yes, even Subarus? Is disassembling my gun considered "simple"?

2. If a law-abiding citizen has easy access to a loaded gun, he/she will be much more likely to haul off and take pot shots at wildlife: Really? There are already laws coving the discharge of firearms in National Parks. Do you really think that if some gun owner is going to break one or two laws, that he/she will really be all that concerned about another?

3. There are no systematic searches of vehicles: It all depends on the attitude of the park officer who pulls you over...
