| may continue to live in your plastic bubble! This is THEIR choice - did you know that children (with or without co-habitating with an animal) carry some of the nastiest germs? Should I not buy a house because a child has been dwelling there? Or do you think we all should take a chance and live our lives - with some germs here and there, you can wash your hands. If you really are THAT concerned with horses and dogs and cats and birds and fish and children etc. carrying disease, check out this book: Why Dirt Is Good: 5 Ways to Make Germs Your Friends by Mary Ruebush | |

| Having just moved back to my hometown, it was nice to see that we still have the most unusual articles in the Comical! But I have grown up with farm animals and the typical house pets and can say that, for me, I never got any more colds than the kids who didn't have any animals living on their property or in their house. And who made it your business to judge the family? Do you know that they are raising their children in a "risky setting"? Can you prove that the horse is endangering the lives of these people by exposing them to the microbes that "normally stay in a barn"? If you have any experience with animals (farm or housepets) then you would know that in any situation, you should always wash your hands after playing with them and that a little bit of grime is, usually, not going to lead to your death.. As for me, I will continue to eat lunch in the barn with my horses and let my dog lick my face. Just call me Risky! | |

| I have to disqualify myself from being critical of the owners of this horse for allowing it in the house. You see, I have a cat. Who has been known to kill rodents with his mouth. And later will jump on my lap and thinks nothing of trying to put his butt near my face. | |

| Who cares? It's their choice. I imagine that little horse is living a pretty good life. Doesn't have to worry about rain and snow and sun and below zero temps. Probably gets lots of good treats and attention as well. If they have a problem selling their home in ten years, well, that's their problem. No different than people that paint bedrooms in tacky awful color schemes. If you want to sell, you need to make it presentable. As far as the germs staying put in the barn, that may be the case if a human never ever ever goes into said barn. But most people with barns and barn animals frequently go in the barn. And then back into the house. So the "microbe that normally stays in a barn away from humans" doesn't actually do that at all. Ever. I would rather raise my children in a home where they are taught to love and appreciate all living things than raise them living in fear of every little bug and microbe that might be the end of them. | |

You sir, are a joke. If you don't like all the dirty rural people, then perhaps you're in the wrong place. Maybe a city would be better, with people stacked upon people stacked upon people. Yep, that's pretty sanitary. If you are old and sick then don't go to the house that has a horse living in it, simple as that. If you're afraid that somehow animal loving people and their pets will be the scourge of your health, then you should move far far away from people. And while you're at it, make sure not to eat meat, drink milk, eat spinach, lettuce, or anything green. You could get E coli. And don't drive a car, you might get hurt. And don't go in the sun, you might get burnt. And don't look up, a bird might poop in your eye. Common sense tells me that the ultra clean freaks get sick more often than people who live a little bit of a "rural" lifestyle. It's kind of like overusing antibiotics. Use em too much and the bacteria become resistant. If you are a total clean freak and germaphobe, your body doesn't build up resistance to various germs, and they'll kill you a lot quicker. I'm sure the family in Belgrade with the horse won't be sad that you won't be coming to dinner. Perhaps I should invite them and their horse over to my house. Our three dogs and four chickens would love it! |

Don't they always say those with pets live a longer, happier life? Cwrite you sound like the biggest stick in the mud that ever lived. I think you need a pet. Might help make you a happier person who doesn't worry so much about what other people are doing.... just a thought. |

I am with the other posters. I'm sure these people not only take good care of their horse, but also their house. I would imagine that the horse is potty trained, so I doubt that's an issue (because horse apples would be a pain to get out of carpet!!!). We had a pot-bellied pig named Hamlet when we were kids and that thing slept in our room and pooped outside. Believe it or not, I think our dogs had more accidents then he did. |

Hell my dog is bigger than that horse, he takes up the whole couch, begs for food 24-7, and sasses me daily, his dog house is 24' x 32' with 10 foot ceilings, a wood stove, stero, and cable TV. All in all the horse has a rough life in comparison. Thor and me have hiked hundreds of miles together and camped in some of the most beautiful places on the planet. He packs his own gear, food, and some of mine also. Hes my buddy and I love him, and I know he loves me too, because he never draws blood when he bites me, well almost never! Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahaha! Seriously pets are good for the soul. |

Cancer is the result of the failure of a person's immune system. Overload it for a lifetime with too many infections (beside colds) plus microbes and the likelihood of serious inflammation or disease increases. Pets add to the overload with dander caused allergies, dirt picked up off the ground when they sniff it and walk on it. Do you wear your shoes to bed? Some animals belong in the barn. Who'd care a wit about these people with the horse in the house if the BDC hadn't published an iname article in place of some real news. (I wouldn't even know about it.) Tabloids are available at any news stand. I do like to generate a good discussion and it seems to be going on here. |

| It seems to me that the comments on this post are pointing out what a kook you are! Go ahead and think what you will and I will continue living a great life with my "germ ridden" animals! Children add stress and frustration - does that mean you shouldn't have them? Because they may kill you eventually? Just make sure that you never leave the safety of your house - oh, but every house has dust, mold, microscopic critters, etc. Beware! Something, somewhere, at sometime may eventually kill you! Signed, Risky | ||

Germs are simply microbes that seek to infect and procreate. Humans are much larger microbes that seek to do the same. Don't live your life as if germs are the enemy. Assimilate and develop a healthy immune system and germs are really not much of a problem. Kiss dogs and small horses, in the long run you will be a healthier microbe in a large package. My 2 cents, if you don't agree, keep it to yourself. Ciao. |
