Sweet Pea Festival Art

It's surprising to see a nude painting to the right of the inside Public Library entry doors.

If I were a parent or grandparent, I'd keep my young children away from the library during Sweet Pea.

The picture is degrading to women and just plain offensive.  It is not beautiful.

Children exposed to sexual material too young wind up being the abusers and perverse of the future.

Since when did the Bozeman Public Library become a gallery open to every kind of artwork.

It takes a village/community to raise healthy, balanced, wise, sane young people.

Oh for crying out loud! bysproutslilsis11 months ago (6 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Remember back in school when you learned about the Greeks and their love of the human body? It is an expression of art, and whether or not you personally like it it will be there. I think it is wonderful to expose children of all ages to the human body as an art form; how else will they learn that it is not something to be ashamed of? I was fortunate enough to have parents that would take me to museums when I was younger; I looked at nude art and am proud to say that I am not an "abuser of the perverse". So you can keep your children sheltered from anything that could be offensive and let me know how they turn out and adapt in the real world.
PS - the Library also contains books about sexuality... BEWARE!!!
Library - a den of iniquity (sarcasm intended) byMTMountainGirl11 months ago (1 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
gotta agree, to a degree, with you sprouts....was in the library not too long ago with the dear hubby....he came up to me and said (basically) "...they have porn on the shelf; it's a cartoon, it's graphic....."

told him if he wanted it to check it out on HIS card not mine, LOL

I'm all for women burning their bras if they want, but books & art are sacred; I may concede it "helps" to have a village to raise a child, but I still hold to the belief that number 1 responsibility of a parent is to raise a healthy, balanced, wise, sane child.

Having not seen the art in question, I cannot comment on it; if I had younger children I would check it out first and then form an opinion on dealing with it.

As an artist.....well, art is both in the eye of the beholder AND in the eye of the creator. My own mother (age 75) has said very negative things about some of my art....funny, but some of those are the ones I've been most successful with.

Art is....in the eye of whoever is looking at it.

And what and how a parent chooses to expose a child to is ultimately up to the parent.

Thanks cwrite for the heads up - again, it's all about the freedom to have the choice in our lives....let the kids see it or don't, it's a personal choice
Disgusting paintings. byMontanaChick11 months ago (6 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
My God, don't ever take the kids to the Smithsonian! Or Lord almighty the Louvre. Good god don't let them EVER browse an art-based coffee table book, or we will have hordes of little "insane" perverts running in the streets. It's definitely paintings of disgusting human bodies that is the cause of war, abuse, starvation and Obama getting elected. Every decent human being knows we should have Andy Warhol's soup cans on the wall, or maybe a nice Thomas Kinkade. I'm disgusted and I will never set foot in such a hedonistic library again. Supporters of trash and evil!!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA

I have seen it - still not offended.

I saw it right after they hung it. It's an interesting piece, but I didn't think it would offend anyone. There's some other pieces in the foyer that are really beautiful - the border collie pastel was my favorite.
But then again, I'm just a troll, poking fun at old goats.

It's not even interesting.
It's a distortion of the
human form.
So...the big deal is what? byjohnbrownraider11 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Its not like kids don't have a porn at home...you got a personal computer? Ok, I bet your kid knows more about it than you and can easily erase the history.

Just like passing out condoms at school...kids gonna do it, might as well do it safe....

They are gonna look at porn might as well do it at a safe environment like the library...ITS A LEARNING CENTER....like birds and bees learning center....

next we can have child friendly strip clubs...

what did the painting look like? bychronicle11 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
I'm a Chronicle reporter and am interested in writing about this issue. I went to the library and saw a painting of a woman's back. Is that the painting you're referring to? Please call me at 582-2628 if you can provide any info about it.
