What's wrong with this picture?

"Hungary's minority Socialist government...cut personal income taxes and social contributions paid by employers to the government...to help the country recover from its worst recession in almost two decades."

Headline: "Merkel Pledges Tax Cuts Despite Rising Deficit"

"Lower incomes taxes would "provide motivation" and encourage economic growth...It would be wrong not to do what is right and necessary for growth, and so prevent ourselves emerging quickly from this crisis...".

While we are trying to be like Europe, Europe sees the need to be like us, even the Socialist gov. of Hungary.

excessive taxes lead to a culture of big government and that leads to poverty of body, mind and spirit for citizens.

But here in our culture there are those who do not understand this reality. The tension here is between people that want more government but do not want to pay for it, and people who understand the reality of Hungary's minority government and they too, do not want to pay for it.

I wast Winston Churchill who said, "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery", and for those of us who understand that the animating source of all our founding documents is in the scriptures Churchill admonishes us to "....never, never, nerver give up".

As long as we have an ever-growing population of people who possess a sense of "entitlement", we will a corresponding growth of government. The same people who cry "greed"! are themselves greedy. Instead of facing up to their own failures and lack of responsibility, they look to government to take from others (in the form of taxes - often under euphamisms such as "fees" or such), and give it to them through ever-growing social programs. What they don't realize is that they will not be "pulled up" through bigger government. Others will simply be "pulled down" to their level. Some will get a perverse delight in that fact -which is the result of an envious nature. It is ignorance, for all will truly end up in the ". . . equal sharing of misery". This will be the only spreading of "wealth" that we end up with - a "wealth" of misery. Until people take personal responsibility for themselves in all facets of their lives, we will continue down this road of socialism to ultimate failure. Our founding fathers took responsibility for their lives and freedoms into their own hands. We need to do the same.

"Some will get a perverse delight in that fact...". Some on this forum.

"...people take personal responsibility for themselves...". Somewhere that got perverted to the idea of others being required to take care of those who won't take care of themselves.

6--you're right, but it goes beyond. There is the whole concept of what is called European Socialism that is crumbling. Until now, they have relied on our economy to support theirs. Now they are beginning to see the errors in theirs and the US trying to implement what they are doing. Enlightenment seems to be leading them to move toward what worked here because we seem to be abandoning it.

It looks as if France, Britain, The Netherlands, and Spain are starting to wake up, too.

“‘Tonight is a very difficult evening for Socialists in many nations in Europe,’ Martin Schulz, the leader of the Socialists in the European Parliament, told party faithful in Brussels via video link from Berlin. ‘(We will) continue to fight for social democracy in Europe.’

“Many Socialists ran campaigns that slammed center-right leaders for failing to rein in financial markets and spend enough to stimulate faltering economies.

“Graham Watson, leader of the EU's center-right Liberal Democrat grouping, said early results suggested a rejection of the Socialist approach.”

It's hard to understand how people can still fall for the lie that a bigger government will take care of them better than they can take care of themselves.
Denmark byEd. July 01, 2009 (1 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
I was hearing this morning that Denmark is a socialist democracy. They have been conditioned to have gov. provide for them and they like it, but at what cost.

Gas: $8.00+/gal.
New Car: 200% sales tax...$20k in US costs $60k in Denmark
Healthcare: All the latest cancer treatment equipment but no one to run it = people waiting 6-9 mo. for treatment = folks dying before they ever see the Dr.

The people are becoming increasingly dissatisfied and are moving to the right.

We are being told so loudly and so often that their way is better that we think we need to move that way, just to try it out. All of them have, having experienced it, are moving our way.

The European Union has moved to the right, not by millimeters but by kilometers. Holland recorded the biggest gains by the bigots and racists. There are many excuses, the economy, terror and other factors. However the same excuses were used during the Weimar Republic by the Nazis to take power.

* Center Right parties won 264 seats in the EU parliament and made major gains in German, Italy, Spain, Poland, Austria, Hungry, Czech Republic.
* Labor Party of Britain took huge losses. The British National Party, an anti-immigrant and anti-EU party that doesn’t allow black people to become members, won two seats in the European Parliament, in regions that Labor traditionally dominated.
* Bulgaria and Denmark were exceptions where the Center left parties made gains.

No quote. It was a discussion between Bill Bennett and a guest. The guest was explaining what he had observed while living and working there.

In 2006 Bruce Bawer,(a gay liberal from NYC)after living in several European countries, over the course of twenty years wrote a book called "While Europe Slept". The book is basically about Europes Islamic immigration problems, which are worse than anything we have over here. To be perfectly honest I had a hard time believing it was as bad as he portrayed it.

So being the info hound that I am, I contacted one of my cousins who has lived all over Europe for the past 23 years, and he pretty much confirmed what was written in the book. I will also say that while I purchased the book primarily for info, it turned out to be an interesting read

Somewhere near the end of the book Mr. Bawer admitted that he had changed his liberal ways.

After reading ROL's post I am now wondering just how much of the move to the right was caused by socialism in general, and how much by immigration in particular?

I was going to say how much I enjoyed “While Europe Slept”, but due to the subject that doesn't seem right. Let's just say I got a lot out of it.

Yup, European friends confirmed events for me, too, except one French friend who lives about an hour's drive from Paris thought I was wrong about the car incinerations. When he came to the U.S. for a visit a year later, he could hardly wait to tell me that I had been correct about the burnings — the French media wasn't reporting them for fear it would incite more violence.

By any chance have you read “Decline and Fall: Europe's Slow Motion Suicide” by Bruce S. Thornton? If you haven't, it's on the same topic and I recommend it if you're still interested in this subject.
