Sunday Big Sky lead article

I seldom agree with Rupp on issues but on the "big Spy" scandal he and Bryson are on the right track. The tip of the iceBerg is all we see. Commissioners please expose the rest of the iceBerg before the ice melts. Sweet Lily sounds like you work for the city, the time to unite is right. Show up on Monday night.

One thing that puzzles me ... bygixa June 28, 2009 (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
... about the coverage of the city hiring policy is that none of the articles that I have seen mention any union involvement. This would seem to be an almost textbook case if there ever was one for union/ACLU action.

Do you know whether the union is taking this up, 6guns?

So far the union has been silent, one local union official I spoke with took the position that since the policy has stopped there is no point to speak out. I explained that this is the tip of the iceBerg and that I have friends who have been profiled by the city administration. I know this sounds like a conspiracy but think of Asst City Manager Chuck Winn who said that an applicants social networking site figured into disqualifying them for a job. He was proud of this accomplishment. He should be ashamed, and he should be fired.

Thanks, 6guns. I wasn't sure if the union had made a statement or not. Your explanation makes sense and I had kind of figured that, if they hadn't spoken out, they would claim it wasn't necessary because the policy was dumped.

That isn't the position I would expect the union to take though, and I can't help wondering if there isn't another reason that they don't want to get involved.

RE: Asst City Manager Chuck Winn — hmmmmm.

the union is waiting to see what the commission is going to do tonight.

Well, there you go with another possibility that hadn't even occurred to me. (I don't have any personal experience with unions, so this is very enlightening.)

This is getting interesting. ;)

Me neither, sometimes unions are needed and sometimes not. Where unions flourish there seems to be a good healthy lifestyle for the workers. But then it seems like the unions get too much power and then down goes the corporation. Union or not how could any one allow this for over 3 years.
