Know your childcare.

As a preschool teacher I have accepted that I have chose a career that has many benefits but financial gain is not one of them. However; when I see a chance to advance in my career I jump at it. That can be a bad thing. As a human being judgement of a job can be jaded by a big pay increase and that is what happened to me. Except now I have to involve the state in attempting to get paid for seven days of work at a a center I wouldn't take my child in neverthless allow them to attend. I promise all this has a point. When considering a child care do a full background check. Spend a ton of time in the facility both with your child and without. Also contact the state and find out if there has ever been legal issues with the facility or its director. A big word of advice talk to the teachers on a personal level without their director. If the teachers and aids in the facility have any issues take it into heavy consideration. If a facility can't keep teachers or keep its current teachers happy, I guarantee your child is NOT in good hands.

i have heard a LOT of horror stories about daycares around here -from both former employees and clients.
they are in such high demand, most parents are so thrilled to find one with any availability, they forget to ask the obvious. many daycares require advance notice before pulling your kid out of their program. so if you freak out and don't want your kid going there anymore, you still have to pay for 2 weeks -even though they've probably already got another kid to fill the slot.
it only took 5 months of daycare to convince me to just stay at home with the kids. (yes, i know that is not practical for everyone)
i would encourage parents to do a 'surprise' drop-in whenever they get the chance. (and yes, i also realize not ALL daycares are bad)
