In Texas, many people installed gates... byberrymountain2 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
I don't know what the law is here, but in Texas people installed gates and even some fencing if necessary, simply because it was illegal for "missionaries" or anyone else to open the gates, to gain access the front door of a residence.

I like the idea of dumping a bucket of water on their head. After all, should they expect to enter another's property and be entitled to "enjoyment?"

How about we ask them where they live? Then get our buddies and go to their home (where they EXPECT PRIVACY) and preach to them, WHEN it is convenient for us?
Get off da Couch!!!!! byjohnbrownraider2 months ago (1 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Since I guess it would kill you to get off the couch, but oh well. Have fun building your gate, wall, or what ever device you think of. I personally like to debate no matter who or what religion comes knocking on the door. Especially since they are usually polite and intelligent.

How about building a fortress complete with turrets and a draw bridge then you could enjoy all the peace and serenity that you can imagine...not only from missionaries but also law enforcement, religious, or just plain in laws.

In fact bozemanite try moving away from civilization to a desolate place for peace and tranquility. Build yourself a compound and if anyone dares to disturb you....you can have a 50 cal machine gun (which is much better than a water gun) to scare them away....

Oh I guess that was already done we call it WACO TEXAS....

Part 2.

Try building an ark and praying that it will rain for 40 days and nights and washes all the people you don't like away....I hear that one worked pretty good for Noah.....

... with un-invited cult members?

That is where they come from, a cult, the largest one.

Their persistance is worse than door to doors sales, which is a thing of the past, except for the one's who come around trying to sell the household cleaner.
They are a scamming, low level cult.

To all the White shirt's with black tie's, you are more than welcome at
jbr's, but probably not alot elswhere.

Years ago I picked up a pamphlet entitled "Letter to a Jehovah's Witness" published by the Moody Press 820 North Lasalle Drive Chicago IL 60610. Whenever I show it to them, they usually can't get off my property fast enough. In fact several times I've offered to give them a free copy(not like them trying to sell their propaganda to you). I tell them they can take it home, read it and then come back & I'll discuss the differences with them. I have yet to see this occur. I'm sure you could probably get a pamphlet for all of the cult type religions but the Jehovah's Witness's are usually the worst.
Turnabout byMrs Claus2 months ago (1 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
I think I'm going to start saving up my old church magazines from my denomination. Then I'll hand them out to the LDSers and JWs that want me to read their literature. I bet money most of them will refuse. (or toss them in the trash) (oh, right that's what I do with theirs!)

I am so glad that I live up a long steep driveway. I'd hate to ride my bike all the way up it just to have someone not answer the door. Either that or get chased off by my German Shepherd LOL.

Another benefit of living outside of town :-)

And I agree. Cultists all the way and as far as debating...you're better off trying to convert a muslim in Iraq.

Unless you are "well read" concerning the Holy Bible, these guys are well trained/brainwashed. FYI: The LDS Bible is the King James version, with over 2000 changes to scripture.

Go ahead and invite them into your home. I believe in one of your comments you said you were picked up because of the color of your skin. Here is what Brigham Young had to say about that. Let me know if you'd still be interested in debating these missionaries. I do not open my door to people who worship manipulative men like Brigham Young or Joseph Smith Jr. and create literal "mafia's" under the guise of scripture. But you go ahead JBR, I'll put up my gate... now that I have looked in the Yellow Pages and seen the MASSIVE NUMBER of these churches in the Boeman area and MSU.

BRIGHAM YOUNGS COMMENTS REGARDING BLACK PEOPLE: (cited/sourced)
"You see some classes of the human family that are black, uncouth, uncomely, disagreeable and low in their habits, wild, and seemingly deprived of nearly all the blessings of the intelligence that is generally bestowed upon mankind....Cain slew his brother. Can might have been killed, and that would have put a termination to that line of human beings. This was not to be, and the Lord put a mark upon him, which is the flat nose and black skin." (Journal of Discourses, Vol. 7, page 290).

"In our first settlement in Missouri, it was said by our enemies that we intended to tamper with the slaves, not that we had any idea of the kind, for such a thing never entered our minds. We knew that the children of Ham were to be the "servant of servants," and no power under heaven could hinder it, so long as the Lord would permit them to welter under the curse and those were known to be our religious views concerning them." (Journal of Discourses, Volume 2, page 172.)

"Shall I tell you the law of God in regard to the African race? If the white man who belongs to the chosen seed mixes his blood with the seed of Cain, the penalty, under the law of God, is death on the spot. This will always be so." (Journal of Discourses, Volume 10, page 110.)
Opiate of the masses.... byalamator2 months ago (4 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Organized religion...any religion...does not have a place in my life. I've been to several and they all think they are the chosen or the best.

If LDS or JW are knocking on your door, politely ask them to leave and they will. Tell them you do not want the Watch Tower or Book of Mormon to look over.

Thanks but no thanks...bu-bye!
RE: Opiate of the masses.... byMrs Claus2 months ago (3 votes) (report abuse)
There are good religions and bad. The key word is "faith." It's your relationship with God. I have a friend who never goes to church, but is the strongest Christian I know. It's hard to do that by yourself, but she really keeps her faith. I choose to worship at a church just to get the contact with other believers and get some good Bible teaching. That said, one does have to do some careful shopping. I refuse to go to a church that dictates how I vote, and passes judgment on what I do. I also want a group that doesn't discount women's role in the church.

The problem is not the churches, but the flawed people that inhabit them. (There are exceptions, like the FLDS. Their teachings are flawed. Mind control has no place in a church.) God is perfect, we are not. My favorite saying is "the devil doesn't need unbelievers to push people away from God, the believers do a fine job for him!"

All that said, I apologize for the "Christians" that have run you off.

Don't worry I'll ask if I want to know anything byLBM2 months ago (1 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
Why build gates? Why have religious discussions/ debates in your foyer? I think that personally if I wanted to inquire about your religion, I would march my little bottom up to the nearest JW or LDS church. Why are they the only two religions that feel the need to go door to door and tell you how much better there religion is than anyone else? So stop coming to every door in the neighborhood, and if I want to know about your “great” religion I’ll ask.
Those Wacky Mormons!!! bySuperJames2 months ago (2 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
I have enjoyed talking with missionaries of many faiths that came to my door over the years, but I will tell you this: if you are not very knowledgeable about religion and theology, you are risking becoming very confused by the LDS missionaries. They have a very set agenda they like to stick to and you aren't really able to have a good 2-way dialogue with them. Definitely don't bother to offer them coffee either. After 7 years in Utah, and thourough investigation of their religion, I have found them very guilty of mostly not even knowing it themselves, and being generally very happy about the LDS tithing and welfare structure(one of the most successful in history, thus they spread like the plague!). There is strong price to pay by giving up your own right to knowledge and a personal relationship with God, and the Mormons pay it in spades on a daily basis. They sure do smile pretty though...

We too lived for a time, around an area which was primarily Mormon. Gives real meaning to the word "Nepotism."

Corruption, power, politics, and the like were every day occurences for these people. They think everyone else is "evil," yet they fail to take a good look at themselves.

Signed "Gentile" (Word used to describe Non-Mormons, but taken from the Jewish Religion. Not a term of endearment.)
RE: SuperJames byMrs Claus2 months ago (2 votes) (report abuse)
I used to be a Mormon. I was excommunicated for joining my husband's non-Mormon church. What Berrymountain says is right on-the "gentiles" are regarded as evil and expendable if they can't be converted. Try to get a job in SLC as a non-Mormon.

Its one thing to find a job, but try living in a neighborhood where your the ONLY non morman, and your daughter is never invited to birthday parties and gets bullied at school every day. Thats way we now live in Bozeman.
RE: RE: Mrs. Claus byMrs Claus2 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse)
I'm so sorry for your family. There are a lot of Mormons here, but they are the minority, so they work pretty hard at fitting in. I actually have a few Mormon friends. (they don't know I was excommunicated, though-don't know if that would make a difference) Also know a lot of Jack Mormons. (the ones that drink coffee and beer) Three Forks and Townsend have a lot of Mormons, but once again they try to be good citizens.

Our church's sister church in Salt Lake City sponsored a woman that was in the FLDS. She was seriously abused, forced to marry a middle-aged man at the age of 15, denied medical care for her MS, and when her father died, her mother married the woman's husband and proceeded to abuse her, too. She saved her money, bought a junker car, and escaped with her five children. The great news is that she is healthy, happy, and remarried. They are living in the SLC area and are doing well. It took a couple years of support and sponsorship for them to get totally on their feet, but definitely a happy ending.

Don't let anyone tell you that the underage marriage doesn't happen-I know it does.
RE: RE: Mrs. Claus byberrymountain2 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse)
We "lived that" for several years. Non-LDS children ostracized by not only neighbors, but teachers and principals who were LDS.

Our eldest was in elementary school and the Mormon teacher had her project for the day. There was a local award going to the best teacher in town.

This woman/LDS teacher, (who was unkind to many of the non-LDS students) had written a list of adjectives and adverbs on the blackboard: Kind-Helpful-Nice-blah, blah, blah.

Each child was given a sheet of paper, and told their assignment was to use a minimum of 5 words on the blackboard to describe her. Then, they were given envelopes with postage attached. These she sent in herself.

Well, I was a bit behind until several of the moms met at Starbuck's one day and one of the mom's pops up and tells everyone what the kids were made to do! About one month later, this LDS MORMON woman/teacher WON the local award for something like "Teacher of the Year!"

That's how it works in Mormondom...
Good ol' Boys bySuperJames2 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
The LDS organization basically boils down to the same mess you get from any "good 'ol boy" network through history. Can't get a good job, get looked down on, etc. Although the vast majority are blind, smiling zombies, there are always a few good poeple to be found that are willing to openly ask questions without fear of ostracism and retaliation. There is a fantastic book that came out by a lifelong Mormon, in fact he was professor of LDS History at BYU in Provo for decades until he wrote the book and was "suspended indefinitely"! The man is Grant Palmer, and the book is titled "An Insider's View of Mormon Origins". Absolutely amazing reading on the subject, especially considering the respected authority of the man who wrote it, and the fact that it was so recently published(2002). It seems that on a regular basis, a thinking, honest, and individually spirited Mormon comes out screaming the truth, but unfortunately honest, spirited thinking is NOT encouraged in that church. It's a lot more along the lines of "follow the law.......especially our law.....and we'll keep you informed of the current interpretations!" Personally, I wish the best for them, but I'm still predicting that big earthquake on the Wasatch front this fall! They are in some extreme karmic debt down there in...um..."zion".....
RE: Good ol' Boys byberrymountain2 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse)
Yes, it is a "Good ol' Boy" network of "Danites." They are very proud of their power and self appointed "authority" over Gentiles.

Nationaldisastercenter.com

This site allows anyone to view crime statistics state by state, and even compare one state to another. Careful whom you trust...Utah has had and does have one of the highest if not the highest rate of fraud/embezzlement of any state in the Union.

Other crimes such as rape, child molestation are very high when comparing against other states. Might shock you.
Live and Let Live bybooklender2 months ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
I do not subscribe to a particular faith, and used to be quite angry if someone tried to push their's on me. The older I get, the more tolerant I seem to become. Last Winter I had two young LDS missionaries come to my door. They asked me something about whether I would like to visit with them about their faith. All I had to say was, "No thank you" (and I did it with a smile). They politely thanked me for my time and left. Hmmm, could it have been that easy all along?
