I know there isn't a lot of us on this forum, but it seems that they might not even read whats recommended here. There sure has been some good thoughts on what should happen to the mansion. I don't think a petition could be posted online because of accuracy issues. |

The mansion cost taxpayer 1.3 million dollars. The park fund is basically at nill, with the purchase of the 2 lots at Burke Park. Our elected officials are going to do exactly as they please. That includes Charlotte Mills who hasn't had time to take a look at Chase's drafts. Apparently she told the Chronicle reporter, she is busy as the Primary Election is fast approaching. |

| The petition is about giving the public a say in how local government conducts the business of our proud city. Are you satisified with the direction the commission has taken with the Mansion. Are you aware of the zoning implications by changing the zoning from residential to business? What will happen the the Bon Ton Historic District (Willson Ave neighborhood) when the zoning changes? Is the city or any city supposed to be in a competitive role with business? Do you want to subsidize office rents for businesses? I could go on but there is no good long term result for the Story Mansion. Sell it! | |

Maybe the Chronicle could send someone...

Here is part of the Chronicle article. Seems pretty straight forward what Chase would like to accomplish with his petition. CHRONICLE: "Chase’s petition states, “We the undersigned and residents of the city of Bozeman, wish to have the City of Bozeman sell the Story Mansion and return the use of the Story Mansion to a single-family residence.” Chase said that if he’s not able to gather enough signatures, he might ask the City Commission to adopt the petition anyway, putting the issue on the ballot regardless. “It’s important to keep the issues before the people,” he said.'" So, I have changed my thinking 100% in 24 hours. This mansion was paid for with Federal Tax Dollars. If the mansion is sold (which might not be a bad idea either) well then, shouldn't the 1.3 million dollars be GIVEN BACK TO THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT? I just want to know if anyone else is thinking about the funding, where it came from, and what it was suppose to be used for. Can't there be a petition which allows voters "choices?" (Single family residence, convention center, museum/historical society/small restaurant, etc.?) The way I read this, it puts ONE option in front of voters (not that it is necessarily a bad option...) but for use as a "single family residence." |

| They will split the cost of the 2nd analysis done by Comma Q, thats right they did the first one a few years ago it is 300 pages long. Half of the 50 grand will come from the SAT grant and half will come from city coffers. Oh wait, I thought the Mayor said a non ptofit foundation would provide the matching funds. For 5 years they have been trying to raise funds so now that that did not work they are taking our tax money. The SAT grant is worth 500 grand and that too will be matched by us unless the at large non profit group magically appears. The madness must be stopped! | |

| 1.3 million in 3/17/03 + 44,000 per year in lost property tax money + snow removal and lawn care + grafitti removal + federal highway money about 850,000 + 200,000 to replace windows + ??? not sure how much for the first evaluation done by Comma Q + 50,000 split between the city and a SAT grant but grants are aour tax dollars and an industry of the federal government to take ove our lives. When will it iend? When will people STANDUP and stop the madness. Our tax dollars are not intended to veneate the ideals of ivory towered fools. How can we take our government back? | |

The article in today's newspaper, suggests that the Story Mansion was paid for by the City of Bozeman/taxpayers/property owners. It was NOT. It was paid for by the 2 separate PORK/EARMARKS. That means...Federal Taxpayer Money, NOT FUNDS SPECIFICALLY FROM BOZEMAN TAXPAYERS. "The City of Bozeman purchased Story Mansion in 2003 for $1.3 million." This type of irresponsible reporting misleads the public, and for what reason/agenda??? How about a simple article that points out how the money to purchase the mansion was obtained? Irresponsible reporting by the Chronicle is also the reason that the Bozeman Daily Chronicle receives and PRINTS ridiculous "Letters to the Editor," such as the one this week, which suggested we sell the mansion, and use the money to offset fuel prices for garbage trucks! Back to CHASE and his PETITION: Say folks, this is not about wether or not we agree with Chase's petition, and what HE wants to do with the property...It's about the MAYOR and COMMISSIONERS and CLERK AND RECORDER ignoring his petition for 3 weeks! The MAYOR and COMMISSIONERS have (at Bozeman Taxpayer Expense)"The commission recently hired an architect and construction managet to determine how much it would cost to restore the mansion." DID WE VOTE TO SPEND OUR TAXPAYER DOLLARS ON THIS (construction) COST? The NASTY MAYOR KAAREN JACOBSEN said regarding CHASE: "started running for city commissioner about six months ago." That is the kind of Mayor/leadership Bozeman wants, and is happy with? I think we ought to have a petition to "oust" the mayor and commissioners! |

| correction, berryman on the mountain; the original purchase of 1.3 million was taken from the general fund in April of 2003 - see minutes from commission 3.17.03 and 3/31/03, Chase read from them on the radio. You are right about the mayor - Chase has got her on the run and she will do what any self anointed politician does, they change the subject and make the issue something else. Why don't the commission make a mil levy request so we can vote on it. The issue is not the mansion it is the commission jamming it down our throats. I don't know about you but I am choking on this kind of crap. Everyone in the city needs to meet the Mayor at the mansion and do a cum by aaaaahhhhh dance. It is all about how good it feels. The pork money was from the Federal highway money (maybe they should have put a round about to circle the mansion and make it a giant flower box) and it was used for getting the exterior in shape. It is still our tax dollars as you know. | ||
