Honest Veterinarian? Anyone?

Looking for an honest vet, who is not geared towards robbing a pet owner, of his or her life savings.

We returned to Bozeman two years ago. Our experience in Texas made us more than leary of vets. We found that vet's today, have found their niche' in guilting pet owners into dozens of tests.

"Oh, we better do blood work."
(Nothing wrong...)
"Oh, it looks like cancer and a very aggressive type."
(Biopsy...)
"Oh, we must clean his teeth every six months, and put him under anesthesia."
"Oh, we better do an x-ray..."

blah, blah, blah...

Found my animals were recieving every test, procedure available. They got more "tests" than I, my wife, or kids have ever had in a combined 170 years of living. (our ages added together)

This was a "Banfield Vet." I found out after several years of my pockets being picked, that several of my other neighbors unbeknowns to all of us, had experienced the same "caring and compassion" from the same PetSmart Banfield Vet.

Looking for a vet who is honest, and does not pray on an owners emotions, or pocket book. I have kids in college! At this stage of the game, those books, tuition and lab fees have me watching every penny.

Anyone suggest a good vet. Looking for honesty, not every test that can be done to animals, under the guise of being a good pet owner, and initiated by money grubbing vet's who hide behind a pretend mask of caring.

Vets in the area byTahoe191 month ago (0 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
This is not that easy to answer as everyone has had a different experience. I have had an experience with one of the vets listed above that made me vow to never return, but a gal I work with loves that same vet. We have a lot of great vets in the valley. I think I have also heard great things about Cottonwood. I would suggest trying one and if it starts to feel too much like your last experience, try another. I am happy with my current vet, although they too talked me into a lot of tests for a sick pup, when it turned out to be something else. They do care though and I appreciate how they know my animals and are always there for me. Best of Luck!

This is just to "second" Tahoe's comment on Dr. Rains. Look under "Bozeman's Best" also.

Creekside is excellent. They've taken care of us through three goldens, a mix, and our current golden/labs and they have always been great - fair and compassionate.

Actually, I think it's Creekside I was thinking about...Kari Swenson is who I was thinking of. She is fabulous!!

We've had great experiences with Cottonwood Vets. Both docs were great.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to try Cotton Wood Vets. One of my neighbors also had high praise for her vet there.

It is great to know there are so many vet's in the area, who really care about their patients.

Woof woof!
