Hip Hop in Bozeman?

I am moving to Bozeman from Atlanta, the hip-hop capital of the south. And our southern metropolis has absorbed much of the "hip-hop" culture as well. So I am wondering about the typical musical preferences of Bozeman...most popular radio stations, most popular songs right now, what you usually hear in a bar or nightclub.....are there any hip-hop music playing nightclubs??

As far as hip hop in Bozeman goes, it's one of more popular genres in town. With a healthy population of students and teens, hip hop prevails. The Zebra cocktail Lounge more often than not showcases national talents from underground hip hop to mainstream rap. Artists such as Kanser, Atmosphere, Michael Franti & Spearhead, 2 Live Crew, Mix Master Mike, Crown City Rockers, Akil of Jurassic 5, Mr. Lif, Akrobatik, and a few generous handfuls of others have played the area repeatedly. Local hip hop groups such as Black Mask, Eightrack Mind, Filth and Foul and others frequent the area, with the larger touring groups Black Mask and Eightrack prevailing in popularity.

Long story short, Bozeman has a killer hip hop scene if you're into hip hop with heart and talent. Check out myspace.com/cactus_records for links to Eightrack and Black Mask, as well as others.

I must be missing something because I haven't even noticed a hiphop scene (and no, it's not just because I am a country gal myself). I like hip/hop too.

IMO, go buy yourself some cowboy boots and some tight jeans...you are in hick town LOL!

Ell-thanks for the info. *wink*

It's not -that- hick of a town. There's too many liberals and college students to have to buy boots and tight jeans...

When 19th was a dirt road and Hipshots was a family diner connected to good ol' Little John's... Wow... Memories of a hick town.

I was just being funny. But seriously, I see more country/hippie/rock/emo stuff around here than actual hip/hop.

Thats another thing I like about Bozeman, it's a good melting pot :-)

The Zebra is pretty good for underground artists as mentioned, Del played there as well.

Also Justus Hip-Hop Emporium is a local clothing business worth a look.

But don't expect as much culture as a metro area, this is a small mountain town.

The best bet for hip-hop on the radio is KGLT (college) on Saturday nights. Aside from KGLT and NPR, the other stations are pretty bland. There are about 6 classic rock stations who would like to play "Night Moves" and "Black Magic Woman" every 3 hours for all eternity. Also 2 country stations and a smattering of low-power religious translators.

Haha, who doesn't like "night moves"?
