Earth Hour

Thank you for helping us spread this idea. The students are very excited about the possibilities.
Have a great day!

/Saturday, March 29, 2008 from 8-9 p.m. (local time) is EARTH HOUR. By turning off your lights during this hour you are participating in a world wide attempt to conserve energy. Last year 2,100 businesses in Sidney, Australia turned their lights off for an hour, and by doing so they reduced the city's energy consumption by 10 percent. Just by turning off a few lights is participating. Imagine if this became a global event! What can you do to contribute?

Lights Off, Lights On! bynewsboy3 months ago (2 votes) (report abuse) (reply)
This is a very bad idea. If we all turn our lights off, reducing our power consumption by 10 percent even for a few minutes, the corporate giant that provides our power will look in his (skinnier) wallet and panic, after which he will approach the PSC for yet another monster rate hike. Grab your ankles and brace yourselves, folks, it's happening again Monday, March 31 -- NWE's request for a 6.6 percent power rate hike is before the PSC (along with a 4% gas rate hike). When will it end? When we're all off the grid, that's when! Until then, all the touchy-feely "Earth Hour" events in the world are only going to drive power rates higher.
