There's no doubt that Senator Obama is an articulate, eloquent man of character. He was brave to address the race issue head on, siting many lingering realities of the racial divide. It's also clear that his Pastor isn't exactly the most enlightened bulb on the string. But both men are black (or at least Obama is half-black). America hasn't shown itself to be sophisticated enough to separate the two. Or savvy enough to rebuff the planting of a racial seed in their head (courtesy of the Clinton machine). So now, instead of a half-black, half-white man bringing the nation together, Obama must separate himself from race discussions in order to win back the majority of white voters. The irony is thick. |
