What do you think should be done with the Story Mansion? Is the city making the right decision by maintaining ownership, or should it be sold?

Vanity Fair had to shut down their website yesterday after receiving over 4 million hits because of Miley Cyrus's "risque" photos.
I would like to hear from some photographers what they thought about the photos. Were they artsy? What do Bozeman families with 15 year olds think about the message this portrays? Over-rated as risque or totally inappropriate? |
As everyone is tightening down on their pocket books and trying to save money, all of the local businesses in the valley are feeling a strain. So not only should you go downtown and shop, you should support all local businesses. Anytime you spend money at a big box store, chain grocery, or any other chain you might be saving a few bucks but your money is going to support other communities and pay salaries of people who don't live here.
So just be mindful - if you do choose to spend local, more of that money stays in the valley. (..."one dollar spent at a local business will... |
The opinion piece in today's Chronicle gushes the same typical, anti-gun diatribe that gun-control supporters regurgitate every time: We MUST restrict legal, law-abiding gun owners to insure they don't go off and shoot up everything!!!
There are several faulty arguments here. 1. The requirement to unload and make gun "inaccessible" is "simple": Who defines whether a gun is accessible or not? Where is the "inaccessible" place for the millions of owners of pickups,... |

Definitely what is needed is a Fazoli's. I wouldn't really like to see more construction, HOWEVER, Fazoli's is a great healthier-type of fast food. LOVE the endless supply of hot garlic breadsticks! They're fairly inexpensive and great food! I love the variety & salads. A great alternative to a fast-food hamburger joint.
I'd open one up myself if I had the $1,000,000 required! I know it would do well.
oops- I meant to post this to "What Bozeman Needs".. trying to figure out how to move it..

So you got this guy Murdoch callin' the gravel pit owners thieves in the night. Nice try! You go DEQ with a 10 year back log? Really! Now who is the thief in the night? Looks like DEQ is run by a bunch of eco-terrorists. THe commissioners kept draggin their feet in earnest while the came up with a plan to stop land owners from exercising their legal land use rights. Government likes 3 things, control, control and control. The commissioners are the thieves in the night and they steal land owner freedom. THese guys along with DEQ want the state of Montana to become a national park.

...has gone full circle. Since its inception it covered alot of immedite issues and had some pretty dumb discussions. But with nothing new in the passed days, it seems to be not worth checking in on anymore.
It was fun, now it's time it get's revamped or dropped,

We the people of Montana should be outraged that this 3-year-old girl and her family got substandard treatment
in this state because they didn't have insurance at the
time of diagnosis. I don't have any insurance either
and I have some major medical problems that I have
caused me to get the same inferior care here.

We are lucky to have such a fine local brew from the folks at Bozone. They took awards in just about every category at the recent beer fest. Their Hopzone Pale Ale took a first place! I agree with that award--its DELICIOUS!

Looking for an honest vet, who is not geared towards robbing a pet owner, of his or her life savings.
We returned to Bozeman two years ago. Our experience in Texas made us more than leary of vets. We found that vet's today, have found their niche' in guilting pet owners into dozens of tests.
"Oh, we better do blood work."

Is it me or is Bozeman being over run by immigrants in the last 14-18 months? I have lived in the area for going on 5 years and in the last 12-16 months I have seen more gang-banging immigrants then ever before. I actually had a car full of them attempt to fight me at an intersection for simply looking over while at a stop light. It was a 1 second look and then I turned away and they had jumped out of the car and luckily the light turned green or there would have been a HUGE disturbance in the middle of the intersection.

The city/county collects taxes in a variety of ways - property taxes, business taxes, and more. I don't understand, however, why we need higher levies on our property taxes to accommodate schooling costs, as well as the other areas where population growth requires expenditures – sewers, streets, playgrounds, snowplows, etc.
Shouldn’t the proper tax structure already be in place, so that each newcomer pays their own way? This would result in a tax base that increases proportionally to the population growth. Instead, it seems that we're going to follow this pattern of being forever nickel-and-dimed for increases. Is there anyone out there who thinks we won't be seeing any more school-...

I made this other night for dinner and it was simple and delicious for a summer time meal that can be made and ate hot or cold.

1 lb asparagus, cut into pieces the same size as the ziti
2 T olive oil*
2 garlic cloves, minced
Sea salt & fresh ground pepper*

After reading many of the discussions, here on Bozeman talks, it made me think of someone I know in Bozeman who needs help. Anne Foster and her husband moved to Bozeman more than 16 years ago. They have worked hard and love being part of this community. Both of them are extremely proud and do not want to ask for help -- but Anne does need your help, now.
A few years ago, Anne started having trouble with a variety of symptoms including unusual lesions on her bone, and symptomatic Tarlov Cysts that have virtually left her unable to do anything....

I'm not interested in paying extra to recycle, and so I drop it off for free at the bins. Is the city going to replace the Babcock Street bins? At this point people on the west side of town have to go to MSU or N. 7th which is really pretty inconvenient. Where I came from, the city built recycling in, gave us the bin too. We sorted the bin, i.e. tin...

I am a student at Montana State University and have gotten involved in a student organization that is hosting a CSA (community supported agriculture) this summer. I think that we as a nation have a very unhealthy relationship with our food systems and am curious if there are any other views on this subject. I put this into the "Just Asking" category but feel that this topic could fit in almost any of the categories offered.

Our 18 year old thinks he doesn't have to work for a living and makes excuses to avoid putting in for jobs. We live 4 miles from town and he doesn't drive, so makes it tough. He joined Army reserve 8 months ago, and seems to think the world is going to just give him everything. We given him 60 days to get a job and an apartment away from mommy and daddy. He is buried in video games, TV, and sleeping. We give ideas and suggestions, and he fights them all. Any ideas?

Anyone have any good ideas how to get rental housefuls of students/constructions guys/singles to act responsibly & keep their yards from looking like junkpiles or outdoor storage areas? Help!

Does anyone else question that there are a plethora of 4 way stops in Bozeman that don't have any stop-signs in either direction? I mean,What's up with that!? Every time I cross those streets, its like juts closing my eyes, and hoping there isn't someone else coming at the same time - same speed. Not literally of course, but you get the drift. And in the winter time,it seriously becomes dangerous as it is harder to stop quickly.
Who gets right of way anyway? I hope I am not the only who thinks this is crazy and dangerous!

Yesterday's Police Reports (Thursday, 1 May) in the Daily Chronicle contained the following: "An officer at the high school checked the names of people going to prom."
I don't recall seeing any police records like that in years past, and I'm curious. Does anyone know what's up with that?

I have a friend that is currently being threatened to be sued because her 2 year old son bit another young kid at McDonalds. This other family "claims" that their kid will probably need surgery for how hard she was bitten, yet the parents of the other kid did not say anything to my friend at the time of the incident that thier kid had been bitten. What should she do?... Her son isn't old enough to understand that what he may have done actually hurt. Plus, this other family cant even keep a solid story every time the have contacted my friend. The bill fluctuates higher and higher and they are sounding very money greedy...I/They need some advice....
